Manual Lymphatic Drainage (DLM)
Manual Lymphatic Drainage or DLM is a very specific technique to stimulate the Lymphatic System. It is performed without creams or oils by making small pushes of the skin and subcutaneous tissue (where the Lymphatic System is found mostly) as well as the lymph nodes.
It can be done to improve any type of oedema or swelling as part of a physiotherapy treatment but is usually used as the sole technique in the session for specific treatments such as lymphoedema, postsurgery, esthetics, swollen legs or pregnancy.
It is a very relaxing and effective treatment but requires an initial continuity in the sessions. In severe cases of oedema such as postmastectomy lymphedema it mayalso be necessary to apply special bandages.
